7th/8th Grade Math, Mr. Friesen

Hello My Name Is...

Mr. Friesen

This will be my 26th year of teaching at the middle school level.  This will be my 17th year in Arizona.  I can proudly say that every place I have taught, my classes have some of the highest test scores in the district because of the hard work and dedication I have for each individual student.  These high scores come from high expectations I have for the students and the hard work the students put in to be college and career ready.  I encourage the students to think through problems and encourage them to be able to explain or show how/why they come to their answers.  Excuses are not options in my classroom.  Students learn and understand the objectives much more with this philosophy of critical thinking through self discovery.  I build their understanding/confidence through questioning and real - world connections in each lesson.  Throughout the year, with the high expectations and proper scaffolding, we will run into many challenging problems within our math curriculum to extend learning.  With collaborative discussion, positive effort and classroom participation, we will come to successful problem solving strategies. The goal is that all students walk out of my classroom at the end of the school year with better educational, people and community skills.  I evaluate student work by spending time going over their homework, bellwork and test data then finding ways to make my students better based on their needs/abilities.  Due to the complexity of the objectives that we have at the middle school level, I will explicitly show, discuss and diagram how to successfully complete the objectives.  If your child struggles with the concepts that we are covering in class, I am always available to assist the students so they can be successful.  I arrive at school every day by 6:15am and am available during my prep time or after school to further clarify any questions the students might have.
