What should a Preschool student bring to school?

In Preschool we don't have a long list of supplies for students to bring. However, there are a few items which we suggest each child have with them;

Change of Clothes - This would include a top, bottom and pair of underwear; socks and/or shoes may also be included. A suggestion is to select clothing that is not worn frequently, as these items will stay at school until possibly needed. These items will be kept in each child's cubby in case of a spill, activity mess, or an 'accident'. Soiled clothes will be bagged, and sent home at the end of the day.

Blanket/Pillow for Nap/Quiet Time - We do have a nap/quiet time in the afternoon. Nap mats with fitted-sheets are provided. However, kiddos usually go down better with a blanket from home; pillows are optional. We suggest a youth size blanket (fleece are warm yet thin for storage), and travel-size pillows are perfect; please, no large "pillow-pet" pillows. Students will use the same mat and sheet for the week, and blankets/pillows are bagged between uses to prevent possible contact contamination, etc. At the end of the week, we wash all the sheets, and disinfect each mat; blankets and pillows will be sent home for washing, and can be brought back on Monday.

What are the days and hours for Preschool?

Preschool at Nadaburg Elementary runs full-days Monday through Thursday, and releases early on Fridays.

Children may be dropped off at the following times. Late fees for late student pick-up may be assessed.

         A.M.Drop-Off:  8:30 - 8:45am               P.M.Pick-Up:  3:30 - 3:45pm (12:30 - 12:45pm on Fridays)

Who may Pick-up my child?

Only people who have been specifically listed on your child’s preschool application may pick-up your child. All allowed persons must be over the age of 18. Also, I.D. may be required if they are new to the preschool.

Do preschool students receive breakfast and lunch?

We do have breakfast and lunch time in our classroom. My aide(s) and I eat with the students 'family style'; this provides a great opportunity to discuss healthy foods, and guide the children with such things like how to handle a fork, open their milk cartons, as well as to develop good table manners. We focus on healthy foods, so we suggest limiting sugary candies, treats, etc.

Breakfast – Students may eat breakfast at home, or purchase breakfast from the school cafeteria. Breakfast is delivered to the classroom. Students purchasing a school breakfast will be served by the classroom aide/teacher and we eat 'family-style’. We serve the breakfast until 8:55am; leftovers are picked up at 9:00am, so please arrive on time if you wish your child to have breakfast at school.  Students who have already eaten at home, may explore the classroom centers.

Lunch - Again, students may either bring a lunch from home, or purchase a lunch from the cafeteria. The same routine is followed as breakfast, and lunch is eaten in the classroom.

Meals from the school cafeteria are not covered by the preschool program. Accounts can be set up with the cafeteria, and money added to the account to cover your child's meals. Applications for free/reduced meals are available from the school office or cafeteria.

What about snacks?

We have an afternoon snack time after nap/quiet time; however, snacks are not provided by the preschool program. Students should bring a healthy snack from home; a juice box or bottled water is also okay.

Does the classroom ever need donated supplies?

Yes! We happily accept supplies! Items we need the most are;

~  hand sanitizer - we wash/sanitize our hands frequently

~  bottled water - very handy when we go outside or for snack time

~  Kleenex - there's always a little sniffle somewhere  :)

~  snacks - snacks get forgotten, and we don't want kiddos to go hungry

~  disinfectant wipes

May I provide a treat for my child's birthday?

Of course! We love celebrating birthdays!  We will serve special treats during our afternoon snack time - about 3:00/15pm.  Treats must be store-bought and individually wrapped by the manufacturer.  Packaged treats that are not individually wrapped (i.e. goldfish crackers, cupcakes) will be passed out using rubber food-handling gloves.
